Patient Cooperation

Cooperation is Key

A key to successful orthodontic care is good patient cooperation. The braces patient must physically contibute more to their treatment than any other form of dental care. In most instances in regular dental care, the patient only has to open their mouth and the dentist will do all the work. In orthodontic care, many orthodontists feel that the patient should agree to the following.

I understand that the success of my treatment is dependent on my cooperation in these five areas:

    1. Brushing and flossing my teeth daily.
    2. Avoiding hard and sticky foods.
    3. Wearing elastics, headgear and retainers as prescribed.
    4. Keeping my scheduled appointments.
    5. Calling my orthodontist immediately when I have a loose or broken appliance.

If I change my mind about this agreement at any time, I promise to tell my orthodontist about my decision.
